The 43rd Chess Olympiad Has A New Goodwill Ambassador – The Legendary Chess Player Judit Polgár

Polgár achieved the Grandmaster title among men when she was 15 years old. At the time she even broke the record Bobby Fischer held previously. Judit is considered to be the follower of Vera Menchik, because she mostly played among men. Polgár was only behind the 43rd World Chess Olympiad’s another goodwill ambassador Viswanathan Anand at the important tournament in Wijk aan Zee. At one time or another she has defeated such chess players, as: Anatoly Karpov, Garry Kasparov, Viswanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen. She was twice among the top 10 men chess players holding the 8th position. Judit Polgár is the only woman in the world who has achieved such success among men.

“She is a killer, who can feel the checkmate 20 moves in advance”. – this is how Alexei Shirov described her.

Apart from Judit Polgár, the 43rd Chess Olympiad’s goodwill ambassadors are: Nona Gaprindashvili, Maia Chiburdanidze, Viswanathan Anand, Anita Rachvelishvili, Nikoloz Rachveli and Lasha Talakhadze.
