Batumi 2018: Gocha Tandarashvili won the media tournament

The organizing committee of the 43rd Chess Olympiad, organized on May 11-12 in Batumi a media tournament “Batumi 2018”, which ended with the victory of Gocha Tandarashvili, the representative of the "Comedy Channel". The champion earned 6 points out of 7 and was undefeated in the first place.

Zakro Intskirveli (Rustavi 2) received the title of the Vice-Champion, Nika Akhalaia, another representative of Imedi TV, took the third place. Inkskirveli, Akhalaia and Tengiz Chobanidze (the "World Sport" newspaper), who took the fourth place, got 5.5 points. The places between them were ranked by buchholz scoring system.

As for the journalists' games, I should point out that there are some interesting chess players among you". Said the president of the Georgian Chess Federation Giorgi Giorgadze.

 "For us, the organizing committee of the Batumi Chess Olympiad, it is very important to have a close relationship with the journalists, so I think the media tournament is a good step towards this goal. The 43rd Chess Olympiad, which will take place in Batumi from September 23 to October 6, is not only a sport competition, but also a big challenge for Georgia. And I'm sure each of us in this hall will surpass this responsible test."- said Zurab Azmaiparashvili, the president of the European Chess Union.

Giorgi Giorgadze and Zurab Azmaiparashvili, also 5-time world chess champion Nona Gaprindashvili and twice world vice-champion Nana Ioseliani, gave all the participants of the tournament the prizes branded with the 43rd Chess Olympiad logo. The winners were awarded with special prizes.

Champion Gocha Tandarashvili was awarded a chessboard signed by Nona Gaprindashvili, an invitation of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Batumi Olympiad (2 days accommodation in the hotel + board), a "SOCAR" Spa Center voucher and a 500 GEL gift card of "Goodwill".

The second place winner, Zakro Intskirveli was awarded with a chess board, an invitation of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Batumi Chess Olympiad (the travels will be financed), a voucher of "SOCAR" Spa Center and a 300 GEL gift card of "Goodwill".

The third placeholder Nika Akhalaia received a chess board, an invitation to the opening and closing ceremonies of the Batumi Chess Olympiad (the travels will be financed), voucher of "SOCAR" Spa Center and a 200 GEL gift card of "Goodwill".

The Organizing Committee of the Media Tournament awarded Tengiz Chobanidze with the best result among sports journalists with a special prize: He was awarded with a full accreditation of the 43rd Chess Olympiad (providing accommodation and board at the hotel during the tournament days)! He also received a voucher of "SOCAR" Spa Center and 100 GEL gift card of "Goodwill".

Special prize was also awarded to Nino Pashalishvili (Maestro TV) with best results among women, the Nona Gaprindashvili's album with her autograph, the voucher of "SOCAR" Spa Center and the invitation of the opening ceremony to the Olympiad.

The Media Tournament participants were : TV Companies (Public Broadcaster, Rustavi 2, Imedi, Iberia, Adjara, Maestro, Comedy Channel, Silk TV, Palitra News, Music Box, TV First) magazine-newspapers ("World Sport", “OK”, "New Generation", "Kviris Palitra"), radios ("Imedi", "Fortuna", "Liberty"), online publications (worldsport.ge; sarbieli. com) and 28 journalists of the Georgian sports association.

The tournament organizers and participants were hosted by the "Georgian Palace Hotel and Spa" in Kobuleti, the official transporter of the competition was the Georgian Railway.
