With the efforts of the 43rd Chess Olympiad Organizing Committee and the FIDE Regional representatives, the event dedicated to the Chess Olympiad was held on 13 May in Batumi.
“First move in Batumi” - this was the symbolic message of the event at the Europe Square.
Within the frames of this event a photo exhibition was held, as well as simultaneous game sessions held between chess grandmasters and young Adjarian chess players.
The students of Batumi State Maritime Academy encouraged guests and fans with an orchestrated march.
The actors and dance ensemble members contributed to the festive mood, and the young chess players participated in an entertaining competition, which gave away memorable prizes.
Zurab Pataradze, the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, the President of the European Chess Union Zurab Azmaiparashvili, the President of the Georgian Chess Federation Giorgi Giorgadze, five times World Champion and 2018 Batumi's goodwill ambassador Nona Gaprindashvili, twice world Vice-Champion and multiple winner of the Chess Olympiads Nana Ioseliani welcomed the public gathered at the Europe Square.
At the end of the event, in the frames of the chess project "Million Moves", Lasha Komakhidze, the Mayor of Batumi made a single move through the specially created online platform.
The event at the Europe Square was also attended by journalists, who took part in the media tournament "Batumi 2018" on May 11-12, in Kobuleti.
The 43rd Chess Olympiad will be held in Batumi, from September 23 till October 6.
To attend the greatest sporting event, 4 000 guests from 189 countries will visit Georgia.
Batumi won the right to host the Olympiad in 2014 at the FIDE General Assembly in Tromso, Norway, where 93 votes were received, while the competition Durban (South Africa) received 58.
